ALUSIT Achieves Success: Innovation in Tools and Coatings for Aluminium Alloys

We are pleased to announce that the ALUSIT project, focused on the development of new tools and coatings for threading aluminium alloys with high silicon content, has reached its final phase with innovative and promising results.

Un esfuerzo conjunto desde 2021

Since its launch in 2021, ALUSIT has been a collaborative effort between Flubetech, Nueva Herramienta de Corte (NECO-TIVOLY), the RVCTI FUNDACIÓN TEKNIKER technology center, and the financial support of the Basque Government’s HAZITEK program (ZL-2022/00541).

The project has focused on addressing the specific challenges posed by high-silicon aluminium alloys, widely used in industries ranging from automotive to aerospace. These alloys present significant challenges in terms of abrasion and adhesion during the threading process.

El objetivo cumplido con éxito

During the project’s final year, a new geometry for threading taps was developed through 3D reconstruction of taps, enabling precise simulations of behaviour during the cutting process.

Additionally, new tribological coatings have been introduced, promising to revolutionize applications in threading tools. These coatings offer increased abrasion resistance and significantly reduce aluminium alloy adhesion during threading, extending tool life and improving process quality.

ALUSIT has successfully achieved its goal of developing new geometries, finishes, and coatings for threading high-silicon aluminum, paving the way for a more advanced and competitive industry.
