Types of cookies
Depending on the entity managing the domain from which the cookies are sent and processing the data obtained, the following types of cookies are used:
- Proprietary cookies: those that are sent to the user’s computer from a computer or domain managed by the publisher itself and from which the service requested by the user is provided.
- Third-party cookies: those sent to the user’s computer from a computer or domain not managed by the publisher, i.e. another entity processes the data obtained through cookies.
There is also another type depending on the length of time they remain stored in the client’s browser:
- Session cookies: these are designed to collect and store data while the user accesses a web page; they are normally used to store information that is only necessary to provide the service requested by the user on one single occasion.
- Persistent cookies: data is stored on the computer and can be accessed and processed by the cookie manager for a defined period of time, ranging from minutes to years.
Finally, there is one last type of cookie depending on purpose in terms of how the data obtained is processed:
- Technical cookies: these make it possible for users to browse a website, platform or application and use the various options or services it offers.
- Personalisation cookies: these let the user access the service with general, predefined characteristics depending on the criteria to be followed on the user’s terminal.
- Analytical cookies: these make it possible for the person responsible for them to monitor and analyse how users of the websites to which they are linked behave. The information collected is used to measure activity and profile websites, applications or platforms to make improvements based on the analysis obtained from the data made by the users of the service.
- Advertising Cookies: these enable the effective management of advertising spaces.
- Behavioural advertising cookies: these store information on user behaviour, which is obtained through the continuous observation of browsing habits, making it possible to create specific profiles as a basis for displaying advertisements.
- External social media cookies: these make it possible for visitors to interact with the content of the various social platforms; they are generated only for users of said platforms. The conditions of use of this type of cookie and the information collected are regulated by the privacy policy of each social platform.
