The main objective of the EQUIDENTAL project is the development of low-cost, simple, flexible, modular, and adaptable surface treatment equipment aimed at manufacturers of dental implantology components and surgical instruments.
What is the basis of the project’s technological innovation?
The technological innovation of the project is based on:
- Development of specific and optimized coatings for application on various dental implantology components obtained through the PVD magnetron sputtering deposition technique.
- Development and fine-tuning of bactericidal treatments for dental implants based on silver and copper ion implantation.
- Validation of the functionality of the developed surface treatments.
- Design, construction, and technical validation of an industrial prototype capable of carrying out the developed surface coating and ion implantation treatments.

Achieving the objectives of EQUIDENTAL will have a significant socioeconomic impact on companies manufacturing dental implants and components, as well as surgical instruments.
Improving people’s health and quality of life
The functional improvement of these components, from a tribomechanical, chemical, and biological perspective, will enhance the health and quality of life of individuals by reducing surgical issues and increasing the durability of dental components and implants.

The project consortium comprises the Chemical Institute of Sarrià (IQS), Eurecat – Technology Center of Catalonia, participating through its Metallic and Ceramic Materials Unit, and the companies Microdent Implant System, S.L., and Flubetech, S.L.
This project is funded by the the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities through the call “R&D&I Projects in Public-Private Collaboration”, State Program to Promote Scientific-Technical Research and its Transfer, of the State Plan for Scientific, Technical and Innovation Research 2021-2023, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (CPP2022-009563).
