The use of light alloys is, in general, booming. Less weight implies less consumption, especially in electric vehicles. Therefore, its use is increasing. This implies changes in the conditions and needs of machining, especially threading. ALUSIT works to develop new geometries, finishes and coatings that allow to overcome the abrasion of die-cast aluminum alloys and, above all, the adhesion produced by these alloys on the threading tool.
Flubetech is currently coating the samples to characterize the abrasive and adhesive wear properties, is developing new tribological coatings (HIPIMS and conventional) and contributing to the analysis of the surface conditions that the demonstrators must present.
The project has the support of the Basque Government’s R&D aid program (HAZITEK) through FEDER funds.
